A Poem about conflict and communication:

I am unapologetic in saying this truth about communication and conflict.
Communication rules the world; the better you are at it,
The bigger the doors of opportunity will be swung wide open for you.
You need not be an orator to be a good communicator,
Neither do you need to be an impressive motivational speaker to communicate peace.

Saying it right at the right time unlocks the potential for peace.
Saying it clearly minimises misunderstanding.
Saying it calmly can bring down a boiling temper.
Saying it thoughtfully can promote reconciliation.

People who cannot communicate think every disagreement is a fight.
You fight to be right instead of trying to understand.
You think communication is about winning,
but honest communication isn’t a competition.

Conflict in communication:

When words are used as weapons,
You think each disagreement is to be won.
Instead of seeking what is true,
You fight to win what you deem to be true.

Every time you turn a disagreement into a battle,
The battles will always cost you more than you bargain for.
Every time you seek to fight, you lose more than you win.
You burn the bridges and forfeit your way back to where your journey began.

Communication is not a war:

It is understanding, nothing more.
The need to always claim you’re right,
Will steal the connection from your sight.
The law of life is simple. You cannot always be right.
The sooner you accept this, the sooner you can focus on understanding rather than winning.

So, stop the fights that could ignite battle,
Stop saying what need not be said.
Learn to listen beyond your voice.
Let go of the need to win the day.

Communication means listening to others’ voices,
Not only yours to defend yourself.
For if you keep on drawing swords with your words,
You’ll lose the people around you, one argument at a time.
