I woke up this morning feeling too lazy to even get out of bed. It felt like my bed and I became soulmates overnight, and I was prepared to stay tucked in forever. I began to look for every excuse to justify my right to stay in bed as I began to cook up perfectly valid reasons with my half-asleep brain to avoid doing anything productive instead of getting up and going for a run.

I picked up my new book on conflict; the fonts are too small to read, I told myself before putting it down. I reached out for my phone, a habit I ditched many months ago, but a bit of scrolling would not hurt, I thought to myself.

It’s probably because I had a late night celebrating my sister-in-law’s Doctorate graduation—which was followed by a Turkish feast that would make Jamie Oliver jealous. I’d told myself I’d run off all those extra calories in the morning… but my bed and duvet had other plans for me.

While contemplating my next justifiable move, this message about “the true value of health” popped up on my Instagram feed. Suddenly, it felt like the universe was calling me out—loud and clear. My excuses vanished faster than the Turkish delights that came with the bill. I saved the video, slipped on my running shoes, and off I went for a run to do my time for the crime of overindulging.

If you ever felt unmotivated like I was this morning, don’t worry; you’re about to discover exactly why your health is worth rolling out from under those covers. Let’s dive into the transcript of the message from one Dr Kaye Cleave’s blog on #ageingdisgracefully. It goes like this:

‘A Wake-Up Call

You can have one thousand problems in life until you have a health problem and then you only have one.
Everything else, money, relationships, and stress, fades away in the shadow.

Suddenly, the things you once worried about seem so small because nothing else matters when your body or mind is screaming for help.

Health isn’t just something you have. It’s everything.

It’s the ability to wake up and feel alive, to move freely, to laugh without pain, to breathe without struggle.

But we take it for granted, don’t we?

Until it’s gone, we don’t truly understand how precious it is.

When your health is compromised; every little thing becomes harder.
Dreams get put on hold. Happiness feels distant. And life’s colours start to fade.

That’s why taking care of yourself isn’t a luxury, it’s an act of love, a gift to your future self.
Because when you’re healthy, you can face anything.

Without it, even the smallest battles feel impossible.
Don’t wait to lose it to realise its value.

Treasure it now while you still can’.

Have a relaxed weekend
